WHAT IS NIPPLE AND AREOLA CORRECTION?
Proportionate and well-placed nipples are an important aspect of attractive breasts that many women hope to achieve. Nipple or areola correction can correct the size, shape, and protrusion to achieve a more satisfying appearance to the patient. This is a simple surgery can give a woman enhanced satisfaction with her breasts and promote a higher self-confidence. Areola surgery can be performed at the time of another breast enhancement procedure.
REASONS FOR CONSIDERING NIPPLE AND AREOLA CORRECTION
Large or uneven areolas.
Inverted nipples.
Large nipples.
Puffy areolas.
GENERAL PROCEDURE
There are various techniques available, depending on the correction to be performed on the nipple and areola. Excess nipple tissue involves removing and reshaping the nipple. Scarring is limited with this procedure because of the existing skin texture or the area. Correcting large areolas can be done by multiple methods, one involving removing skin closest to the breast and the other by removing skin closer to the nipple. Removing skin closer to the nipple will leave less scaring, but the results may not make the outer edge even or as small as desired. This procedure can help women who’s nipples were altered by pregnancy and breastfeeding to feel happier with their breasts.
RECOVERY PROCESS
This procedure is relatively simple and should take around an hour to complete. Patients will be given anesthesia for the surgery, and the doctor will go over surgery goals again beforehand. Stitches to help with healing and over the counter pain relievers will aid with comfort. There may be some swelling and bruising, but patients should be able to return to work within a couple of days. Exercise and physical chest contact should be avoided for 2 to 4 weeks.
RECOVERY PROCESS
Some reasons women consider having a nipple areola correction procedure can be due to aging and the lack of elasticity or breast cancer. Dr. Lett explains the most common reasons for having an areola augmentation and how the procedures are performed.
