Surgical reduction for gynecomastia is considered the most effective way to remedy the condition. The build-up of tissue or excess fat in the male breast can be caused by weight gain, genetics, or imbalances within the body. Reduction of the breast will create a more masculine appearance that can enhance confidence.

REASONS FOR CONSIDERING GYNECOMASTIA SURGERY

  • Enlarged breast tissue and fat.

  • Loose breast skin.

  • Overactive glandular tissue development.

  • Uneven breast sizes.

GENERAL PROCEDURE

The treatment of gynecomastia can be handled in multiple ways. Less invasive procedures are being used to reduce scarring and recovery time. Liposuction can be used as a technique to remove excess fat. In this case, anesthesia will be administered, and then the surgeon will remove tissue through small incisions on each side of the chest. If a greater amount of tissue needs to be removed, along with sagging skin, tissue excision may be the best option. This option will require general anesthesia and sedation.

RECOVERY PROCESS

Patients may feel pain and swelling after either procedure. With liposuction, the patient will need to wear a compression garment afterward and avoid exercise. If the line of work does not require heavy exertion, they should be able to return to work within a few days. Recovery from tissue excision can take longer depending on the type and extent of surgery that is done. After one week, patients should be able to go back to work and start light exercise two weeks after.
