Why Opt for a Rejuvenation Treatment?
There are many reasons women may opt for vaginal rejuvenation. Some reasons are aesthetic, and others are medical. Each person will feel they need this treatment for their own very personal reasons. Feeling good about yourself is vital, and this treatment will boost your confidence in more ways than one.
Aesthetic
As women age, estrogen levels are lower, and this can make tissues lose elasticity. The vagina suffers from this loss of elasticity too. The vaginal walls can become thin, and without this support, the vagina can feel lose or “larger.” This change doesn’t only apply to the interior vaginal walls. The exterior elements of the genitals can look less than youthful, as well.
These hormone changes also affect muscle strength in the area, which contributes to a decrease in vaginal tone. With this muscle atrophy, the vagina becomes less elastic, and women cannot tighten these muscles as much as before. Sexual satisfaction often decreases with muscle atrophy in the pelvic region.
Childbirth is another reason the vagina may need rejuvenation treatment. To be expected, growing a birthing a human will stretch and expand the vagina and the outer, visible tissues. In some cases, the tissue will return to its original size and shape, but sometimes it doesn’t. This visual change may be detrimental to a woman’s self-esteem.
Medical
Medically, there are needs for this treatment as well. The exact causes that create aesthetic vaginal displeasure can contribute to medical conditions.
When pelvic floor muscles become weak, urinary incontinence is often a side effect. If you experience leaks or more when you sneeze, laugh, or cough, weakened muscles might be the reason. Even exercise could become a dangerous activity for those with pelvic floor issues.
With a weakened pelvic floor, some women will experience internal pain with intercourse. Externally, the inner labia could be the source of pain if they protrude past the outer labia.

Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
There are genital plastic surgery options available to correct aesthetic and medical vaginal issues. Surgical vaginal rejuvenation enhances the appearance and reduces pain. While surgery may seem scary, the results can give you a designer vagina.
Labiaplasty
The labia are the lips that cover the vagina. There are inner and outer labia, and surgery to the inner labia is the most common. Many women do not like the length of their labia minora. It can hang past the outer labia from age, genetics, or from stretching during childbirth. This look becomes a source of embarrassment for some women, and many become self-conscious about how they look. When the inner labia hang below the outer labia, women can also feel discomfort if it is twisted or tugged during activity. A labiaplasty is a surgical solution that can relieve irritation of the labia and help improve a woman’s self-confidence.
Reasons to get a labiaplasty:
- The inner labia hang lower, and you are self-conscious.
- The labia are uneven, and you don’t like the look.
- You experience itching and irritation from their length.
- There is pain during intercourse or physical activity.
- You can see the labia through clothing.
During a labiaplasty, a cosmetic surgeon will reduce the length of the labia minora. The most common way to do this is called a trim procedure. During a trim procedure, excess skin gets cut away, and the tissue is sewn back together and stitched. Another popular surgical procedure is called the wedge. As it sounds, a wedge labiaplasty removes a pie-shaped piece of tissue from the labia. This technique maintains the natural border of the labia but reduces the amount of tissue in the area.
Vaginoplasty
Women who are experiencing significant vaginal laxity may opt to tighten it with a surgical procedure. This laxity can be felt internally, as well as with external skin around the vaginal opening. Childbirth can cause laxity, along with age. When separation of vaginal muscles is extreme, sexual dysfunction can occur.
A vaginoplasty tightens up the muscles and skin within and around the vagina. Internally beneath the skin, the vaginal muscles are tightened with sutures. Bringing these muscles back together restores sexual function and can help with urinary incontinence as well. Any extra skin inside the vagina is also removed to improve tightness and tone.
Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
Not all vaginal rejuvenation needs are at the surgical level. For many, less invasive treatments will achieve their desired results.
Radiofrequency
Vaginal laxity is treatable with radiofrequency technology. RF vaginal rejuvenation is non-invasive with no downtime. Radiofrequency energy tightens internal muscles and vaginal skin, giving the vagina a tighter feel and can even solve minor incontinence issues.
RF vaginal rejuvenation uses a handheld device that emits RF energy directly to the skin internally and externally. Patients will feel a warming sensation but should feel no pain. This procedure works by heating up deep layers of skin to stimulate collagen production. RF waves damage existing collagen to signal to the body that it needs to begin production in that area. The result is tighter, firmer skin.
CO2 Laser
Another way to address vaginal laxity or atrophy is with a CO2 laser. Also known as a carbon dioxide laser, this procedure penetrates the top layer of skin to reach the dermis. Small thermal damage is created in the area to stimulate collagen production. New, healthy skin will replace old damaged skin.
The CO2 laser uses a laser inserted into the vagina that will tighten the entire vaginal canal. The procedure is mainly painless, but some report mild discomfort in the outer third of the vagina. The laser is also available in a handheld device to treat the labia and outer genital area if they need rejuvenation as well.
