One of the best indicators of someone who is in shape is toned arms. There are people who spend hours in the gym and watch what they eat, while others turn to plastic surgery. In fact, new figures published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) revealed that arm lifts have skyrocketed in popularity.
How much has this operation grown in popularity over the past 12 years? Approximately 4,380 percent. In 2000, upwards of 300 females underwent the operation, but in 2012, that number soared to 15,000.
What Is Arm Lift Surgery?
This procedure is referred to as brachioplasty and involves removing loose skin from the back of the arm.
“Women are paying more attention to their arms in general and are becoming more aware of options to treat this area,” said ASPS President Dr. Gregory Evans, according to a press release. “For some women, the arms have always been a troublesome area and, along with proper diet and exercise, liposuction can help refine them. Others may opt for a brachioplasty when there is a fair amount of loose skin present with minimal elasticity.”
Why Are Arm Lift Surgeries So Popular?
Physicians speculate that there are various explanations for this increase, including the influence of Hollywood A-listers and the White House, specifically Michelle Obama. A 2012 study noted that the former First Lady’s arms garnered the most admiration, followed by celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel and Demi Moore. Morning talk show host Kelly Ripa also received praise for her arms.
When Should I Get Brachioplasty Surgery?
You’ll want to show off your toned and sculpted arms in the summer. This means, fall or winter will be the best time to get arm lift surgery in Tennessee. Your arms will need to heal after the procedure, and the scars will need time to fade. Cooler temperatures in the wintertime will help reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of other complications.
You can also cover your arms up during the winter. So then when you show them off in the summer, no one will suspect you’ve had work done!
