According to Yahoo Health, male plastic surgery is more prevalent than many think, and even more secretive.

A recent RealSelf.com online survey indicates that 72 percent of doctors surveyed reported a large increase in the number of male patients in the last year alone.

Women will oftentimes speak to their plastic surgeons numerous times before surgery, discussing treatment options, outcomes and overall procedure details. They are also more apt to confide in a trusted friend or family member that they are going under the knife.

With men, it’s a much different story. Men are much less likely than women to tell anyone they are going to have surgery. With much of the research and consultations are done on their own, men are more likely to go through with a change in a more timely manner.

Some of the most common surgeries and enhancements being done include:

  • Facial changes such as cool sculpting and wrinkle smoothing treatments
  • Invisalign treatments to fix crooked or uneven teeth
  • Liposuction
  • Tummy tucks

Men often have a harder time hiding their surgical enhancements because of their thicker skin, said New York plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dana Khuthaila, MD. to Yahoo Health. This causes men to opt for more subtle changes in moderation.

Men oftentimes undergo these cosmetic changes to maintain a younger-looking appearance for a more competitive work advantage.
