More men than ever are opting for cosmetic procedures including Botox and dermal fillers. They are quickly discovering that injections and plastic surgery can be just as beneficial to them as it is for women. While the cosmetic surgery gender gap seems to be closing, the way men and women research and decide on which procedures to pursue are worlds apart.
On its Smart Beauty Guide website, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) said that while women tend to do more research about the procedures themselves, men tend to be more concerned about cost and whether or not anyone will be able to tell that they went under the knife. The organization offered the following great advice to men considering cosmetic procedures:
- Botox and fillers are not one-time injections – These procedures will have to be repeated periodically for you to keep up your desired look. If you want something more long lasting, you may want to seriously consider surgery instead.
- Cosmetic surgery is not a commodity – While it’s perfectly acceptable to shop around for a car until you get the best deal, this is not true for medical procedures. You’re not just paying for surgery or an injection, but also the expertise of the physician and his or her staff.
- Spend time with board certified plastic surgeons – This goes beyond just talking about prices. You need to spend an adequate amount of time with a physician discussing how you want to look and what your best options are for achieving that goal. You should also get a second or third opinion if necessary.
