More than ever, men are choosing to go under the knife. Male plastic surgery has steadily been increasing over the years, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Specifically, almost 1 million surgeries and treatments were performed on men, which counted for roughly 10 percent of 2012’s total.
Facelifts have especially jumped in popularity. Over time, skin begins to sag, but a simple nip and tuck can give males that facial definition they are looking for. Nose jobs are also becoming more common.
“There’s less of a desire now for a conventionally beautiful white-bread face,” Dr. Steven Teitelbaum, an associate professor of plastic surgery at UCLA School of Medicine, told Fox News. “People are embracing strong features like ethnic, non-traditional noses.”
Men that tend to have larger noses have benefited from chin implants. This procedure has spiked by 71 percent from 2011.
Men are also opting for plastic surgery because the recovery time has drastically decreased. This has to do with the fact that instruments have become smaller, which means so are any cuts made.
Advancements in technology have also led to the increase in procedures performed on men. Micro-liposuction and Ultherapy can both tighten skin around the jaw, leading to a more chiseled appearance.
“[Ultherapy] is an ideal procedure for guys in their 30s who are starting to see some skin laxity. The results are subtle but significant, and patients can go back to work the next day,” stated Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic dermatologist in New York City, according to the news outlet.
