There are plenty of effective products you can buy that will enhance your complexion, but did you know there are also certain foods that can help you accomplish your goal of having beautiful skin? In a recent article published on the Reader’s Digest website, contributor Amy Zerello curated a list of foods that are great for your complexion. Here are a few of them:
- Avocados – When consumed, this delicious superfood is a great source of biotin, which can prevent your skin from becoming dry. However, you can also apply avocados directly to your skin. Zerello recommends pureeing the pulp of the fruit to create a moisturizing mask for your face.
- Tomatoes – “A German study found that lycopene-rich tomato paste helped participants prevent sunburn when they combined it with olive oil daily for 10 weeks,” writes Zerello. “Besides being a great source of the antioxidant lycopene, tomatoes are considered a high-carotenoid fruit. These nutrients may help slow down cellular damage from free radicals.”
- Walnuts – Much like fish, walnuts contain Omega-3 fatty acids that can make your skin smoother. This is a great way for vegetarians to get plenty of these “good fats” into their diet. Studies show that Omega-3s may also help prevent cardiovascular disease, reduce inflammation and have other positive effects on your overall health.
If you’re looking for additional ways to improve your complexion, you may want to consider chemical peels. These simple, cost-effective procedures remove outer layers of damaged skin, prompting the body to create a new layer of untainted skin cells.
