Sculptra Aesthetic is a long-lasting FDA approved facial injection used to create a more youthful, healthy appearance. Sculptra, made from poly-L-lactic acid, replaces collagen lost over time during the aging process. Usually, patients need about three injections over a set period tailored for each personal need.
Sculptra works deep within the dermis of the skin. It replaces collagen, restoring a fuller look by correcting facial wrinkles and skin folds. It can be used to treat:
- Chin wrinkles
- Marionette lines, or the lines framing the mouth
- Smile lines, or deep folds between the nose and mouth.
Sculptra is injected directly into the skin. Swelling at the injection sight may occur but will only last a few days. Wrinkles will reappear temporarily, but will fade as the collagen replacement begins.
Some side effects of Sculptra include:
- Appearance of small or large lumps underneath treatment area
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Injection site pain
- Itching at injection site
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness.
Patients should not seek treatment if an active infection or skin inflammation is on or near the injection site.
This is a gradual process and a full course of treatment is recommended for best results. A treatment course can change based on patient results and desires. Results lasted at least two years in clinical trial treatments.
A gradual process may be your desired plan if you would prefer a more subtle change to your face.
