Patients interested in making a facial change or enhancing their current features should be aware of the new study published in the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Although dermal fillers and other noninvasive procedures have been proven to decrease signs of aging on their own, when combined with other means of change, you may see more noticeable results.
What are these forms of treatment?
Botox is a purified protein that reduces the activity of muscles, most often between the frown lines and eyebrows. By doing so, the face maintains a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in the body. It enables the skin to maintain volume and hydration, two main factors in maintaining a youthful appearance.
Enhancing your appearance is as simple as choosing a facial area to change and enlisting the help of a trained surgeon.
“Combining Botox injections and HA injections prolongs the rejuvenating effect.”
What are the findings of the study?
The study found that combining Botox injections and HA injections actually prolongs the rejuvenating effect. By combining the two, muscle activity is reduced, ensuring the area remains the same for a longer period of time.
After performing the test, researchers looked at the facial appearance of the subjects three months later. By comparison, the side of the face that had both Botox and HA filler had a better, more pronounced appearance than the other side. This slower degradation was visible by up to 42 percent.
Where should this combination be used?
Although freezing some parts of the face to decrease the amount of wrinkles, such as the forehead, is a good idea, other areas of the face should not be changed. Slight paralysis to the cheeks or lips can create an unnatural appearance, one that every plastic surgery patient hopes to avoid.
