WHAT ARE MY HAIR GROWTH OPTIONS?
Premature balding is an issue that many men in Tennessee – and a few women – have to contend with. Some opt to make the most of the few follicles they have left, while others bite the bullet and ask their barbers to take it all off. There are a few products and procedures available that claim to restore volume in these instances. However, many of these treatments are widely viewed as ineffective – that is, until now.
HAIR RESTORATION METHODS
According to HealthDay News in 2013, researchers from prominent universities including Columbia and John Hopkins have made an impressive breakthrough in the science behind hair growth. This breakthrough could be a boon for men and women who want to restore their once lustrous locks.
“Surgical methods, mainly hair transplants, really just shuffle existing hair around from [the] back of the scalp to front of the scalp,” said Dr. Luis Garza of John Hopkins School of Medicine. “The main challenge is to grow a new hair follicle.”
The new approach pioneered by this research team focuses on taking hair follicles from other parts of the body and relocating them to the head. As a result, this technique could be applicable to more women who have yet to benefit from conventional hair transplants. As the source notes, the vast majority of females with hair loss concerns just don’t have enough transplantable hair to qualify for today’s treatment methods.
