BOTOX® COSMETIC
WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox® Cosmetic is considered a safe, effective way of treating aging skin. Common areas for Botox injections include horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows, and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. Botox® is a proven effective non-surgical form of facial rejuvenation.

Is botox right for you?
REASONS FOR CONSIDERING BOTOX®
Excessive facial wrinkles.
Large wrinkles or furrows on your forehead.
Small wrinkles or “crow’s feet” around your eyes.
A vertical “frown line” between your eyebrows.
Botox® is well-known for smoothing out facial wrinkles, but its effectiveness extends beyond just wrinkle reduction. It can address a variety of conditions and areas of the body, offering a multitude of benefits:
Areas and Conditions Botox® Can Treat:
- Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis): Botox® is widely used for controlling overactive sweat glands in areas such as the hands, feet, armpits, and scalp. This treatment helps in significantly reducing perspiration.
- Skin Improvement: By diminishing pore sizes and enhancing skin texture, Botox® contributes to a more refined skin appearance. It also plays a role in improving skin tone, offering a smoother complexion.
Through these applications, Botox® proves to be a versatile treatment option for both cosmetic and functional concerns, expanding its uses beyond traditional wrinkle treatment.
WHAT EXACTLY DOES BOTOX DO?
GENERAL PROCEDURE
The procedure works by altering the facial muscles beneath the skin related to wrinkles. A licensed practitioner will place cream with a local anesthetic on your skin before treatment, and they will immediately apply ice upon completion of the Botox® treatment. Typically a small amount (1-2 cc’s) of Botox® is injected into the area of the wrinkle. Botox® works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. When the underlying facial muscles relax, the skin begins to smooth out. The effects of a Botox® treatment will last approximately three to six months, after which the patient may choose to repeat the procedure.
Preparing for Your Botox® Appointment: A Comprehensive Guide
Getting ready for a Botox® appointment involves a few crucial steps to ensure you achieve the best possible results. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Prior Day Preparation
- Exercise Timing: Aim to complete any intense workouts at least a day before your appointment. This allows your body to settle and may help reduce any potential swelling.
2. On the Day of Appointment
- Clean Face: Arrive with a clean, bare face. Remove all makeup, creams, deodorants, and oils from the areas that will be treated.
- Medications and Supplements: Avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) about 24 hours beforehand, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. They can increase the risk of bruising.
- Alcohol and Smoking: It’s best to steer clear of alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, as it can also increase the likelihood of bruising. Similarly, limiting smoking can improve circulation and healing.
3. Post-Appointment Considerations
- Though this guide is focused on preparation, it’s helpful to know that after treatment, you’ll want to avoid lying down or exercising strenuously for a few hours. Discuss any post-procedure instructions with your provider.
Taking these steps can help optimize the outcome of your Botox® treatment and make the process smoother for both you and your practitioner.

How Soon Can You Expect to See Results from a Botox® Treatment?
After receiving a Botox® treatment, you can generally start to notice changes within a few days. Typically, most individuals begin to observe the smoothing of wrinkles and fine lines between 3 to 14 days post-treatment.
This window allows the neuromodulator to fully interact with your facial muscles. While some may see subtle improvements quickly, others might experience the full effect closer to the two-week mark.
Key Points to Remember:
- Initial Effects: Often visible within a few days.
- Full Effect: Typically achieved within two weeks.
- Individual Variation: Results can vary based on personal skin type, age, and metabolism.
Monitoring your progress during this period can help ensure that you achieve the desired outcome from your treatment.
RECOVERY PROCESS
Patients generally return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure; however, following the post-procedure guidelines will dramatically reduce the length and intensity of the recovery period.
Post-Treatment Dos
- Apply a Cold Compress: Lightly apply a cold compress to the treated area if needed to reduce swelling and discomfort.
- Pain Relief: Use Tylenol as needed to manage any mild pain or discomfort.
Post-Treatment Don’ts
- Avoid Pressure: Do not lay down or apply pressure to the treated area for at least 4 hours after the injections.
- No Heavy Exercise: Refrain from engaging in heavy physical exercise during this period.
- Skip Cosmetics: Avoid applying cosmetics near the treated area for the same duration.
- Hands Off: It is also advisable to avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area for at least 24 hours.
Our certified practitioners will guide you through every step of your Botox® treatment, ensuring you have the support and information needed for a smooth recovery.
