prevent wrinklesAs a plastic surgery practice, we offer a number of treatments and procedures that can help turn back the years. But this post isn’t about facelifts and Botox- this about practical, easy things you can do everyday to prevent wrinkles, or at least slow down the process of them forming.

Avoid the Sun:
You knew this was coming! Sun exposure is THE number one cause of wrinkles-more than heredity. Plus, there are innumerable products and spray-tan options available so you can get a decent faux glow. But obviously completely avoiding the Sun is impossible, and also… who on Earth would want to do that?! So, for the times you are exposed to the Sun…

Wear Sunscreen:
All year long- daily and unsparingly.

Don’t Smoke:
Smoking breaks down collagen and elastin in your skin leaving it prone to sagging and wrinkles.

Give Yourself a Facial Massage:
Take a few extra minutes to apply your moisturizer with your finger tips in a circular motion, directed upward with mild pressure. This simple addition to your beauty regimen will help increase blood flow, reduce puffiness,  remove dead skin, remove toxins, and soften wrinkles.

Use a Moisturizer with Retinol Nightly:
Retinol prevents wrinkles by helping to remove dead skin and promoting the production of collagen. Do this in addition to your daily moisturizer to help keep your skin hydrated.

Sleep on Your Back:
Over time, the sleep lines you get from the way you sleep does turn into wrinkles.
If you cannot sleep on your back, a satin pillowcase versus a cotton one, will help. Also there are beauty sleep pillows made with special foam in a unique shape that alleviates pressure on the face.

Chemical Peel:
A chemical peel is a popular, nonsurgical procedure that improves sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented and wrinkled skin by peeling away the skin’s top layer.
There are light, medium, and deep chemical peel options, depending on the skin type.
You can learn more about which chemical peels are offered at The Lett Center, here.
