There’s a common misconception that plastic surgery and non-invasive cosmetic procedures are for women, but recent data reveals that men are increasingly taking advantage of these opportunities to look and feel better about themselves. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), cosmetic procedures among men rose 22 percent from 2000 to 2012.
One of the procedures that men are turning to regularly is Botox. Patrick Bowler, medical director of Courthouse Clinics in the United Kingdom, tells the Financial Times that Botox treatments for male patients jumped an incredible 200 percent between 2011 and 2013.
As for why men are choosing to get Botox injections, experts have a few theories.
“In the world of finance, men’s looks are important not only to get a job but to keep a job,” Susan Mayou, consultant dermatologist at the Cadogan Clinic in London, said in an interview with the news outlet. “Men want to be seen as on top of their game and not appear angry or tense with a furrowed brow. With correctly injected Botox and fillers, they look, feel and perform at work better.”
The source adds that wives also have a big influence over their husbands, often taking them to plastic surgery clinics themselves.
Whether you’re a man or a woman, you deserve to look and feel your very best.
