Buttock augmentations are on the rise. Fueled by celebrity social media posts and #belfies, buttock augmentations are becoming increasingly popular among almost every demographic of women.

According to Glamour Magazine, social media posts from celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Nicki Minaj highlighting their backsides have become more prominent on Instagram and Twitter. These “belfies” seem to be all over every social media feed, as well as Snapchat.

Are they actually enticing real, everyday women to get buttock augmentations? Some experts believe so.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), almost 10,000 buttock augmentations were performed in 2013 in the United States, a 16 percent increase from the year before.

In 2014, buttock augmentations rose by 86 percent.

A buttock augmentation, also known as a Brazilian butt lift, is a procedure where fat is transferred using implants, fat grafting and sometimes a combination of both. This procedure can:

  • Enhance your self-confidence or image
  • Increase fullness, roundness and projection of the buttocks
  • Improve figure balance.

A buttock augmentation can be completed using two different means.

  • Buttock implant procedure: During this procedure an incision is made toward either the top on both sides of the upper buttocks or toward the bottom, near the gluteal creases. A silicone implant is then inserted either in the muscle or above the gluteal muscle. Insertion can depend on your personal desires, enlargement size, body type and the surgeon. The incision is then closed.
  • Fat grafting/Brazilian butt lift procedure: Liposuction is first performed through incisions that have been made. The fat is then re-injected into the buttocks for desired effect.

Deciding which procedure is right for you will depend on the consultation you have with your surgeon. Results will vary and can change with time. For more information on a buttock augmentation, or to schedule a consultation, visit our website.
