We hear a lot about men and women who are “obsessed” with plastic surgery after undergoing a nip and tuck. However, it’s more likely that, once you’ve actually reaped the benefits of a nose job or tummy tuck, you may simply be more eager to consult a Tennessee plastic surgeon rather than letting physical insecurities hold you back any longer. Recently, HealthDay News covered one segment of plastic surgery patients who have shown a penchant for going back under the knife after an initial procedure: breast reconstruction recipients. But Why?

Because patients experience more confidence.

Breast reconstruction gives women who have had a mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis to regain their feminine figures and overcome one of the most prominent physical signs of their struggle. It seems, however, that once some of these patients enjoy the boost in confidence that often comes with this procedure, they are more likely to invest in further surgeries such as a facelift, eyelid surgery and liposuction.

Of 1,214 women who had breast reconstruction surgery within a seven-year period, the researchers found that 113 had enlisted a plastic surgeon for additional procedures.

“The most common reason given by the women for having cosmetic surgery was the desire to improve their self-image (62 percent),” HealthDay News reports. “Most of the women said they had a higher level of body image satisfaction after cosmetic surgery.”
