It’s easy to forget, especially when you’re visiting with multiple plastic surgeons, that these professionals – just like you – are mothers and fathers of children that they love. Are the kids of plastic surgeons any different than the sons and daughters of other professionals?

In an interesting post on the blog of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASPS), Leigh Adams, daughter of Boston plastic surgeon Dr. William Adams, discussed what it was like to grow up with a plastic surgeon as a father.

As a child, Leigh took for granted that the respect that her father received as a skilled plastic surgeon opened the doors for her to receive great medical care from his colleagues in other specialties.

It wasn’t until she was an adult living on the other side of the country that she realized what it meant to be a respected physician. She encountered doctors who offered services like Botox and facelifts without the proper training. During these experiences she discovered how important it is to only work with surgeons who have your best interest in mind.

So has Leigh had any plastic surgery? She had the following to say:

“As the daughter of a plastic surgeon, the first question I am commonly asked is whether or not I have had anything done. Although I have not had any cosmetic surgery to date, I believe one day I probably will. I wish to age gracefully and I have witnessed time and time again the positive effect surgery has had on my father’s patients.”
