Olympic swimmer Stephanie Rice of Sydney, Australia, recently opened up to WHO Magazine about her decision to undergo rhinoplasty. According to the source, Rice suffered a broken nose when she was a teenager. As a result, she was forced to deal with ongoing sinusitis and said that her nose never looked the same as it had prior to her breaking it.

“My family and friends would say it was fine, but random people would comment,” the 25-year-old told the news outlet. “[Fixing it] was always something I knew I would do. It was not a question of if, but of when.”

The news outlet reports that the gold medalist underwent two separate procedures — one in 2012 and another this past January — to achieve the end result she was hoping for. She said she’s so happy with her new nose that she would even consider additional cosmetic procedures sometime in the future.

“Seeing the better version of my nose made me realize how much it had been affecting me,” Rice explained. “Everyone will have an opinion, and what I’ve learned over the years is that you can’t do things to please people.”

Rice is just one example of the many people throughout the world who turn to plastic surgery as a way to boost their self-confidence and feel better about their overall appearance.
