Surgical procedures such as rhinoplasty are often only known for their cosmetic purposes. While someone may simply want a nose that looks different, it’s not uncommon for a patient to need the surgery after an accident or because they have breathing problems. For these medical reasons, one NFL star is seriously considering having nose surgery.

As a defensive end for the Houston Texans, J.J. Watt is no stranger to violent collisions. During the fourth game of the season, he received a hit that left a deep gash on the bridge of his nose. Although the injury was repaired with stitches, the wound has been reopened during subsequent games. As a result, he has a permanent – and not-so-attractive – mark across his face.

The Texans’ season will be coming to an end on December 29. In an interview with The Associated Press, Watt said that he is thinking about having plastic surgery during the off-season. Although he admitted that the injury is very painful, the main reason why he is considering rhinoplasty is his mother. The 2012 Defensive Player of the Year told the source that his mother hates looking at the injury and has been prodding him to have something done about it.

Before having surgery, Watt said that he wants to give his body a rest – an important thing to do for anyone considering a cosmetic procedure.

“Once it gets times to heal up and rest, it goes back to pretty normal,” Watt told the news outlet. “We’ll see what happens. If it doesn’t heal itself, then I will look into getting it fixed.”
