New ASDS study cites excess weight and skin texture as top cosmetic concerns

The 2015 Consumer Survey of Cosmetic Dermatology conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) found that many people who are curious about cosmetic procedures share the same worries and discomfort with their appearance.

Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they would consider a cosmetic procedure because they are “somewhat or extremely bothered” by their excess weight. In addition, 72 percent said they were self-conscious of their skin texture or noticeable discolorations and 69 percent were bothered by lines and wrinkles around and under their eyes.

Of the 7,315 respondents in the survey, 3,596 said they would consider undergoing a procedure.

During 2014, the ASDS performed more than 207,000 body sculpting procedures, with some of the most popular being wrinkle relaxing injections and fat removal.

At The Lett Center, we understand your body insecurities and worries. One of our procedures, the body lift, can help patients achieve the look they have always desired.

A body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy, is a procedure used to raise and reshape the unsightly, sagging body contours. During the natural aging process, the skin will lose its elasticity, causing the mid section, as well as other areas, to lose its natural shape and firmness.

This procedure removes the loose skin and related fat deposits, creating a more youthful, defined appearance.

A body lift is most often performed on the lower torso, upper legs, abdomen, waist, buttocks, hips and thighs. In addition to the sculpting of the contour, liposuction is also often used to rid the body of its extra fat deposits.

The entire process can last anywhere between three and seven hours, depending on patient desires and the opinion of your surgeon.

Another problem area many patients choose to change in their face. The face is one of the biggest indicators of age, with fine lines and wrinkles changing a youthful appearance into one that is aged.

Patients are fighting back though, with help from Kybella, an FDA approved injection used to diminish the amount of fat underneath the chin. This fat can cause a double chin, which may be hard to get rid of with even proper diet and exercise.

“This unprecedented, first-in-class treatment is an absolute game-changer for many people bothered by stubborn chin fat,” said Naomi Lawrence MD, ASDS president-elect.

With injections spaced over a number of pre-determined months, Kybella enables patients to eliminate the fatty tissues that cause a double chin, without having to undergo an invasive procedure.

Whether you want to undergo an invasive or non-invasive procedure, The Lett Center can help you achieve the look you have always desired.

During your consultation with Dr. Lett of The Lett Center, your desires, overall health and surgery possibilities will be discussed in full.
