Microneedling may sound a bit intense, no thanks to the word “needle” in it’s name. The treatment is virtually painless and is considered to be an effective way for building collagen, thickening the skin, and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a type of collagen induction therapy. It is a minimally invasive treatment to improve the appearance of the skin. A small tool with hundreds of tiny needles attached to it, is rolled on the skin to create micro-injuries over the skin. These small punctures in the skin trigger the body to create new collagen and elastin.
Step by step Procedure
First, an aesthetician will apply a numbing cream to the patient’s skin and let it sit for about 45 minutes. Next, the practitioner will gently roll a derma roller over the surface of the skin in various directions creating tiny holes in the skin’s surface. This process usually takes 20-30 minutes total. Immediately after the treatment your skin will be red and tight. For best results, this procedure is recommended 3 times with minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks in between treatments.
Benefits of Microneedling
It is effective is stimulating collagen production. As we age, our collagen production depletes, resulting in saggy and loose skin. Microneedling stimulates the production of new collagen in a natural way.
- Newly produced collagen act as fillers, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
- Acne scars are less noticeable and reduced. Collagen production is necessary to improve the skin’s appearance.
- It helps improve skin texture.
- Stretch marks become less visible as collagen restores the appearance.
