Recent data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals that breast lift procedures are becoming increasingly popular among women in the United States. According to a press release published on March 31, breast implant surgeries are still the most commonly performed plastic surgery for this demographic, but the number of  women who have undergone breast lifts has risen 70 percent since 2000. This outpaces breast implant growth two-to-one.

“The breast lift procedure is way up in my practice,” said Dr. Anne Taylor, an Ohio-based ASPS-member plastic surgeon, in a press statement. “More women are coming to us who’ve had children, whose breast volume has decreased and who are experiencing considerable sagging. For many of them, we are able to get rid of excess skin and lift the breasts back up where they’re supposed to be.”

The statistics from the ASPS indicate that breast lift surgeries are most popular among women between the ages of 30 and 54. Common reasons for undergoing this procedure include the following:

  • Elevate the breasts to reverse the effects of aging
  • Firm breasts that have lost substance as a result of pregnancy and breast-feeding
  • Re-align nipples and areolas
  • Restore natural suppleness following extreme weight loss.

For many people, getting a breast lift not only improves their appearance, but makes them feel better about themselves overall.
