How can you enhance your appearance with a noninvasive procedure?

What picture comes to mind when you envision the typical noninvasive plastic surgery patient? If you’re unsure of the answer, or where you fall in the mix, there is new information available that can help.

“More than 5.9 million facial rejuvenation surgeries were performed using Botox in 2013.”

According to a recent study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, a new composite of this patient is coming together. The study, “Motivations for Seeking Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures in an Academic Outpatient Setting,” found that the typical patient is a middle-aged women with a higher level of education and a stable work environment.

Noninvasive cosmetic procedures has surged in popularity in recent years, with more than 5.9 million facial rejuvenation surgeries performed using Botox in 2013. This is over a 5,000 percent increase in the past 25 years alone.

What is the most common change patients desire to improve? Here are the top five according to the study:

  1. Eyes: 78 percent
  2. Cheeks: 28 percent
  3. Neck: 21 percent
  4. Lips: 15 percent
  5. Nose: 7 percent

Why do patients choose to undergo a minimally invasive procedure? There are three main reasons to consider. As compared to an invasive procedure, noninvasive surgery often requires less recovery or downtime then an invasive procedure. For some patients, taking a lot of time off work can be next to impossible, so a different kind of surgery is essential.

For others, this type of surgery is a better fit because it is often cheaper than an invasive procedure. In addition, some patients are able to undergo more than one procedure at a time, enhancing a range of areas or just focusing on one feature.

Another reason why patients choose to make a noninvasive change is in the event of a major life change. Changes such as divorce or a death in the family can spur patients to desire a different appearance, in turn a different outlook on life.

Whatever your decision or choice may be, be sure it’s for you and your benefit.
